Junam Reservoir, known as a paradise for migratory birds, is a beautiful migratory bird destination with an area of 898ha and natural conditions that attract 109 species of migratory birds. Every year, tens of thousands of migratory birds and resident birds come to this habitat, where you can see various aquatic plants and aquatic insects, and it is the only place where you can vividly observe the free aerobatic flight of migratory birds. Starting with the wintering of 50,000 whooper swans in 1980, you can see various migratory birds, including 16 species of natural monuments and 10 species of endangered species designated by the Ministry of Environment.
In addition, the Ramsar Cultural Center, located right next to Junam Reservoir, was established to commemorate the 10th Ramsar General Assembly held in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do (Changwon Convention Center) in October 2008 and to spread the spirit of the Ramsar Convention, which is to “conserve wetlands and emphasize their value.” On the first floor, there is the Wetland Culture Room, which exhibits the philosophy and content of the Ramsar Convention, the distribution of Ramsar wetlands around the world, the Ramsar Memorial Room, and the Special Exhibition Room. The second floor of the Ramsar Culture Center consists of a wetland library, PC room, eco-observatory, wetland experience room, and video viewing facilities, making it a space where you can search for information, relax, and watch ecological displays.
