Transition to Eco-Friendly Vessels for Decarbonization According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Climate Change Impact Analysis, the severe impacts of climate change are already occurring and are happening faster than expected.

Most industries, including shipping, must move away from fossil fuels. Especially, international shipping, which is highly dependent on fossil fuels, has set a carbon emission reduction target for international shipping by 2050 as a milestone of the Initial Strategy on GHG Reduction adopted by the IMO in April 2018, and the transition to Eco-Friendly Vessels has become a survival goal for sustainable management to secure competitiveness.

The transition to Eco-Friendly Vessels is linked to the problem of choosing Zero-Emission vessel fuels, and it has the immediate task of developing technology and building supply infrastructure.

From the perspective of shipping companies, while sympathizing with the perception of the transition Eco-Friendly Vessels, due to uncertainty about the future of vessel fuel, it is limited to setting a declarative carbon neutrality roadmap, and the actual implementation plan is progressing slower than other industries.

The debate on what kind of vessel fuel will be used in the future has become a future challenge that needs to be overcome through joint responses with countries, international organizations, and some shipping companies, as well as many stakeholders involved.

- An unprecedented surge in demand for consumer goods has led to a boom in container shipping, but import and export shippers around the world are experiencing an unprecedented collapse in container shipping reliability and denial of cargo bookings.
- Global container vessel congestions made 14% of vessel capacity stranded, sending ocean freight rate to another sky high level.
- However, global inflation, triggered by the Russian crisis, sharply cooled consumer demand which lasted for two and a half years and container shipping has now returned to pre-pandemic levels.
- Many North American and European shippers who have experienced supply chain disruptions are calling for the dissolution of shipping alliances, and in North America, FMCs have significantly increased their authority to regulate carriers, while European regulators are considering suspending the "Consortium Block Exemption Regulation" (CBER) extension that made shipping alliances possible.
- If the above measures are realized, the "revenge" of shippers around the world will appear to be successful in the short term, but in reality, the consequences will be passed on to consumers in full force.
- Carriers are able to operate a wide variety of routes because alliances allow them to hedge the significant cost risk of operating a route with other alliance carriers, but if alliances were to be disallowed, the number of oceangoing routes would be drastically reduced.
- The current commoditization of the liner industry (with no differentiation of services between carriers) foreshadows a scalping price war among carriers in the face of declining global demand, and MSC, the world's largest carrier, is expected to use its "economies of scale" to threaten other carriers with a rapidly expanding fleet.

Mr. Lee Ho Choon, Ph.D. candidate in environmental economics graduated from the department of economics, Republic of Korea University in Seoul and holds an M.A degree (2000) in economics from Republic of Korea University.

He joined the Republic of Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) in 2001 and is currently a Director of Shipping Policy division in KMI. He has been studying on various subjects in the shipping and maritime industry, such as database construction in maritime transportation, green logistics and maritime safety. He participated in a project related to the economic feasibility of LNG fueled ships in Republic of Korea 7 years ago and has recently been interested in research on future fuels in the shipping industry.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) agreed to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by or around 2050 at the 80th meeting of the Marine Environment Commission (MEPC) held in London in early July. This is a stronger measure than the previous target of 50% reduction by 2050, and the impact on the Republic of Korean shipping industry is expected to increase further. In addition, IMO adopted a technical measure, the GHG Fuel Standard (GFS), as a basis to prepare combined measures combining technical and economic measures while raising the emission reduction target. IMSF&F, ZESIS, etc. were reviewed until 2025, and then it was decided to adopt medium-term measures. In response to the IMO's tightening of GHG regulations, Republic of Korean shipping companies are expected to be forced to make large-scale new investments in carbon-free ships or pay for excess GHG emissions while using existing ships.
From a long-term perspective, it is desirable for Republic of Korean shipping companies to switch to carbon-free ships that do not emit carbon. In this presentation, we will review various countermeasures of Republic of Korean shipping companies for the realization of IMO 2050 carbon neutrality and suggest implications.

LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) plant has been developed in both onshore and offshore.
Traditionally, the floating LNG(hereafter FLNG) needs higher CAPEX and longer EPC schedule than ones of onshore plant due to sea environmental condition.
Nonetheless, oil majors consider positively that FLNG has not only an easy mobility feature but also an easy offloading and transportation using LNG carrier.
Recently, the trend of FLNG is faced with new era and it is the Nearshore FLNG market.
In the past, FLNG has been used for the production, pre-treatment, liquefaction and storage of natural gas in deep sea.
And now, the Nearshore FLNG is used for the liquefaction and storage of feed gas which is already pre-treated on shore plant.
Also, the Nearshore FLNG has a low sea level and moored condition in a jetty and dolphin. These conditions require a low sea environmental condition.
Now, Samsung Heavy Industries (hereafter SHI) has developed the new Nearshore FLNG model to maximize the effectiveness of the Nearshore FLNG since 2022 and SHI has announced the Multi-purpose LNG Floater Nearshore (hereafter MLF-N) which has been certified by DNV at OTC 2023 in Texas.
MLF-N has standardized hull and has a various LNG storage capacity through a flexible lengthening.
Also, MLF-N has standardized equipment specification and is based on performance and technology that SHI has achieved already.
Eventually, MLF-N is an optimal solution that can meet all the needs of ordering companies who want to develop LNG easily, simply and quickly.

As the efficiency of engines and the performance of ships gradually improve, it becomes more important to efficiently treat surplus BOG (Boil Off Gas). In addition, with the increase in the LNG spot market, there has been an increased demand for the ship which can handle all BOG even anchorage condition.
Recently, there was a demand for a large-scale re-liquefaction system for LNG floating unit that acts as an LNG terminal without propulsion, such as an LNG FSU.
In response, Hanwha Ocean developed a BOG re-liquefaction system called the Nitrogen Refrigerant System (NRS) that uses N2, which can be easily produced on ships, as a refrigerant. NRS improves efficiency by combining the conventional N2 reverse Brayton cycle with our cryogenic re-liquefaction technology.
A small-scaled NRS pilot plant has been constructed, and secured satisfactory performance results, system automation, and operational reliability.
The results of these pilot plants were also applied to NRS (3 trains per ship) of 2 LNG FSUs, and were finally delivered in February and June 2023.
In the LNG FSU project, Hanwha Ocean R&D Institute directly participated in process design and major equipment specification decisions to design an optimized re-liquefaction system, and improved performance by about 5% through process optimization during gas trial.
Based on the above, Hanwha Ocean was able to successfully build a re-liquefaction system line-up that can respond to various LNGC engine types, BORs, and various operational profiles.

As the regulatory bodies such as IMO and the EU have been strengthening greenhouse gas emission regulations, various eco-friendly technologies using carbon neutral fuel, zero carbon fuel and renewable energy have been developed in the maritime industry. A lot of attempts and efforts were made to apply such technologies to the conventional LNG carriers; however, there have been difficulties, largely due to limitations caused by the traditional arrangement of LNG carriers, such as lack of space, blind sector of visibility and old regulations.
Hyundai Heavy Industries investigated how to adopt the green technologies more effectively and developed a new layout for the next generation of LNG carriers by changing the arrangement. The living quarter including the navigation bridge is moved to the fore part of the vessel, the cargo compressor room is shifted aft, and the engine casing is designed to be compact.
This next generation of LNG carriers has several notable benefits compared to conventional LNG carriers: better visibility, spare space for alternative fuel systems and less wind resistance.
It should be noted that even with all these benefits, there are still a lot of challenges we have to overcome. Hyundai Heavy Industries are carrying out a wide range of joint development projects with ship owners, the Flag authorities and the Classification societies to identify the challenges and secure the safety level of the new design.
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the next generation of LNG carriers which is necessary to implement the eco-friendly technologies into the marine industry. The benefits and the challenges will be discussed. We expects this new generation of LNG carriers to play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the international LNG shipping.

X-DF-2.0 technology was introduced in 2020 to further improve the platform’s environmental footprint. iCER (Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling) technology options provide a significant reduction in energy consumption in both gas and diesel mode. With X-DF2.0 both methane slip and total GHG emissions are reduced in gas mode, while in diesel mode iCER lowers GHG emissions. The recently introduced on-engine configuration of iCER reduces the engine room space needed for emissions reduction equipment as well as offering simpler installation and commissioning. All WinGD engines currently in service can be converted to X-DF engines.

The VCR (Variable Compression Ratio) concept improves the performance and fuel consumption of the engines, and consequently, the CO2 footprint of conventional diesel engines and X-DF dual fuel alike and makes the technology attractive for both new building and retrofit solutions.

OTS is a simulated driving training equipment and provides a simulation environment similar to actual driving situations using software that combines a distributed control system (DCS) for plants and process simulation technology. It is included in process systems (fuel supply system, liquefaction/vaporization system) based on LNG/ammonia/hydrogen/methanol applied to eco-friendly ships. It is equipped with virtual training facilities that respond to all scenarios that may occur in design verification and process systems by providing a ship operating environment. University of Ulsan and HD Hyundai have built OTS Center through RIS projects. The facility is equipped with training facilities to experience and learn the process related to LNG carrier operation based on virtual reality (VR) for LNG fuel-powered ships. Based on 3-D modeling, it is possible to use training facilities that perform internal and external touring of LNG-fueled ships in a virtual environment. Through this, operation optimization and software improvement training and demonstration can be performed through process analysis of eco-friendly ships.

A fluid stored at a cryogenic temperature such as LNG expands and evaporates in a storage tank due to heat introduced from the outside, generating boil-off gas (BOG), which leads to an increase in pressure in the tank. An LH2(liquified hydrogen) storage tank in a LH2 carrier or fueled ship also has this problem, and the self-pressurization is an unavoidable problem. In the case of hydrogen, a re-liquefaction process may be too expensive, so a storage tank withstanding a medium pressure could be a better solution without gas emission during a voyage. In this case, since the pressure increase rate of the LH2 storage tank determines a voyage schedule and the tank insulation specifications, an accurate prediction of BOR(boil-off rate) becomes important. This study shows what problems can occur when predicting the pressure increase in a LH2 storage tank through equilibrium and non-equilibrium models.

Due to the climate crisis caused by global warming, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is tightening environmental regulations, and the 80th MEPC meeting(2023.07) set new targets to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Most countries around the world are not only announcing many policies to realize the hydrogen economy but also consist to build a network for public use of hydrogen.
The use of carbon-free hydrogen is essential to achieve these goals, and the expansion of fuel cell systems that convert hydrogen into electricity is being actively considered.
In addition, the global establishment of hydrogen supply chains is necessary to realize a hydrogen economy.
A safe and only way to transport a large amount of hydrogen is to use a ship to transport hydrogen safely.
In the case of South Korea, most of the hydrogen has to be imported from overseas. So I'd like to present the R&D status of marine fuel cell systems and liquid hydrogen(LH2) carriers.

This study aims to investigate basic performance characteristics of hydrogen fuel cell with experimental and numerical methods to be applied for zero-emission hydrogen-powered ships. A series of lab-scale experiments were conducted in Pusan National University, using 1kW PEMFC which has relatively smaller and lighter system than other fuel cell types. The performance characteristics were measured and compared as polarization curve under various static conditions (Operation temperature, Stoichiometry, …) and dynamic conditions (Load profile, Tilt, …). Furthermore, the characteristics of the fuel cell performance were estimated by numerical methods using Matlab Simulink with the validation of those results with the experimental results, and the performance of the fuel cell systems, including the thermal treatment and fuel supply system, were estimated using Aspen HYSYS .

In this paper, the development of a fuel cell system that uses liquefied hydrogen fuel in marine propulsion, called LHFCS (Liquefied Hydrogen Fuel Cell System), is introduced. LHFCS consists of liquefied hydrogen fuel tank, fuel gas supply system, liquefied hydrogen bunkering station, marine PEMFC (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel cell), control & alarm monitoring system, PMS (Power Management System), and safety shutdown system. As for the liquefied hydrogen fuel tank, a 450 m3 IMO type C tank with a vacuum insulation was developed. Liquefied hydrogen stored in a fuel tank at -253 degree Celsius is supplied to the fuel cell through the fuel gas supply system, where a pressure build-up unit is applied to vaporize liquefied hydrogen. Overall fuel cell system has 6 sets of 1 MW fuel cell system. The fuel cell system is designed with a safety concept device satisfying classification requirements and rules. DC grid system is introduced to increase electrical conversion efficiency and is equipped with auxiliary batteries. A PMS is capable of controlling electrical load balance on hybrid system with fuel cells and batteries.

국제해사기구(IMO)의 선박배출가스 규제에 대응하기 위하여 선사들은 다양한 친환경 선박연료를 고민하고 있으나, 여전히 LNG가 가장 주목받는 연료가 되고 있다. LNG의 극저온성으로 인한 저장 및 작업의 어려움이 있음에도 불구하고, 최근에는 LNG 연료를 활용하기 위한 벙커링인프라가 전 세계적으로 잘 구축되고 있으며 LNG벙커링 운용기술이 개발되어 LNG추진선박 발주는 당분간 가장 지배적일 것으로 예상된다. LNG벙커링 기술의 성숙도가 높아짐에 따라, LNG벙커링 작업으로 인한 Time 손실을 줄이기 위한 기술적 요구가 제기되고 있다. 즉, LNG추진선박의 화물하역과 LNG벙커링 작업을 둥시에 수행함으로써, 벙커링 작업으로 인한 Time 손실을 줄이고 LNG추진선박은 작업효율성을 높일수 있다. 벙커링 동시작업이 수행되기 전까지는 LNG벙커링 작업동안 모든 인근 작업을 중단시켰기 때문에, 2-3일 정도의 벙커링 작업Time을 추가적으로 필요로하여 경제적 손실이 발생하였다. LNG벙커링 동시작업으로 작업Time 단축으로 효율성은 증대되어 유리하나, LNG벙커링과 기타 작업의 동시작업으로 인한 위험성이 증가되는 문제점이 발생하게 된다.
본 연구에서는 LNG추진선박 선종별 LNG벙커링 동시작업을 안전하게 수행하기 위해 필요한 기술을 정의하며, 향후 수행될 연구Topic들을 제안한다. LNG추진선박 선종별 벙커링 동시작업 절차서를 개발하는데, 선종별 작업 특성을 고려한 동시작업 절차서에 따른 위험도 평가를 진행한다. 위험도 평가 결과를 바탕으로 위험도를 제거하거나, 저감하여 안전한 벙커링작업을 만족할 수 있도록 벙커링 동시작업 절차서를 개발한다. LNG는 위험물질이기 때문에, 벙커링 작업 중 누설로 인한 폭발사고가 발생하면 치명적인 사고가 발생하게 된다. LNG벙커링 작업 중 안전관리구역 내를 실Time 모니터링하여, 허가된 작업자만 작업하고 허가되지 않은 인원이나 물체가 침입시 즉시 작업을 중단시킬 수 있는 실Time 모니터링 시스템 개발계획을 소개한다. 또한, 양자를 이용한 광역LNG누출 모니터링 시스템을 개발하는 개념을 소개하며, 안전한 LNG벙커링 동시작업이 될수 있도록 기술적으로 고안한다. 개발된 기술들은 실제 선박에서 STS LNG벙커링 동시작업 실증을 통하여 검증될 것이며, 산업계에서 적용하여 벙커링 산업 활성화에 기여하게 될 것이다.

Dr. Kim received his Ph.D. degree from Chonbuk National University in Aerospace Engineering, majoring in Thermal and Combustion Engineering, where he studied internal combustion engines, reciprocating engine thermal engineering, air pollution reduction and greenhouse gas reduction technologies. Since joining KR in 2012, he has worked on projects related to the application of eco-friendly alternative fuels on ships, air pollution, and GHG reduction on ships, and has also worked as a civilian expert at the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. He is currently working as an expert in safety management and thermal management technology for risk assessment of new fuels such as LNG, methanol, and ammonia for ships and development of STS bunkering safety procedures.

The Cryogenic Insulation System Research Center is a research center established for the purpose of demonstrating various performance evaluations related to the design and production of membrane cargo holds and insulation systems for LNG carriers. The center is a research base with facilities, equipment, and manpower that can provide test analysis and technical services through test evaluation, inspection and process of LNG cargo hold, and certification of performance evaluation and inspection. As an organization that can test, evaluate and certify the performance of LNG cargo holds, the center supports shipyards and related equipment manufacturers to develop products that can comply with IMO environmental regulations in the cargo hold market. The center can also lead the technical research of LNG cargo containment system (CCS) used in LNG-related ships and LNG production and storage plants, and support the development of new LNG CCS. This article introduces the current status of various LNG CCS performance evaluation test equipment that the center has built.

LNG transfer and bunkering solutions are currently facing new operational challenges related to rapid technological change and trends requested by ship owners.
The increase in gas consumption due to the continuous increase in population and the increase in the price of gas-powered ships are increasing due to the decarbonization path of major ship owners.
However, bunkering, an LNG transport system, is facing a technically limited situation compared to the requirements of ship owners, and various methodologies are being proposed to solve this problem.

The Korean shipbuilding industry, which focuses on new cargo ships, should be expanded to include repair and retrofit, conversion market. The newbuilding-oriented Korean shipbuilding market is being directly influenced by the global newbuilding market in real time. Depending on the market situation, surplus and shortage of the manpower occurs depending on the market situation. The global repair and retrofit, conversion business is a market as big as newbuilding, and those market situation is relatively stable and the money circulation is rapidly progressing, which can bring a cost reduction and bigger margin. If the new and retrofit industries are owned together, the national shipbuilding industry technology can be maintained and developed without escape of the manpower to other industries and countries. Considering the level of national income per capita in Korea, it can be seen that there is no competitiveness in the field of repair, but it is difficult to separate both ie. repair & retrofit because there are many cases where regular dry-docking repair and retrofit are performed at the same time. A shipyard system that would do both scopes must be propely equipped and trained. There are many types of ship modification, but Korea is competitive only when it receives orders mainly for high value-added projects that require advanced engineering, sophisticated installation, and test complex capabilities. Up to date, we have focused on the installation of SOx scrubbers and BWTS in Korea. From now, environment-friendly and high value-added conversion projects, such as converting diesel propulsion to LNG DF propulsion or converting LNGC to FSRU, must be selected and carried out.

I received my bachelor's degree in "Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering" from Istanbul Technical University (2006).

Between 2006 - 2008, I worked as an "Accuracy & Production Control Engineer" at Sedef Gemi Insa A.S (Sedef Shipyard, Istanbul-Türkiye), the largest private shipyard in Türkiye and a subsidiary of Turkon Holding. I was responsible for the administrative and technical supervision of various steel-related manufacturing and assembly processes. The steel constructions, including the launching operations of 10 pcs 1150 TEU and 1 pc 1900 TEU container ships, were successfully delivered with high-quality standards.

Since 2009, I have been working for Gemak Group of Companies (1969, Istanbul-Türkiye), one of the most competitive shipyards in the Mediterranean, having served more than 3,000 shipowners and ship operators.

Over the years, I have been involved in intensive operational and technical processes as a "Project Engineer" (2009-2012), a "Ship Repair Chief Engineer" (2012-2014) and a "Project Manager" (2014-2019). This enabled me to get to know the field very well, master the dynamics of operations and project management, and have in-depth technical and professional expertise in my profession.

Since 2018, as a "Regional Marketing Manager", I have been managing the marketing and sales activities in the regions (Mediterranean, Black Sea, and Gulf regions) where I am responsible for achieving the strategic targets of the organization such as commercial and administrative activities, marketing, management of the existing portfolio and new customer/client acquisition, and optimum capacity utilization.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) is steeping up for research to reduce GHG. There are various methods among for GHG reduction, the most effective method is converting the fuel. Instead of fossil fuel containing a lot of carbon, it is necessary to switch to carbon-neutral fuels such as methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen are representative carbon-neutral fuel. The methanol engine developed by HHI, H32DF-LM, is the world`s first engine developed exclusively for methanol. The fundamental designs of combustion system, such as compression ratio, valve timing, turbo-charger, are decided by 1D simulation. 3D combustion simulation is conducted to investigate the fundamental characteristics of methanol combustion and determine injector specification. HHI is expanding HiMSEN methanol-DF engine line-up, and also continuing research to develop ammonia and hydrogen engines in near future.

Challenge by climate change for each industrial group is working to solve in various ways. In particular, the shipping and shipbuilding industries are facing new challenges such as high fuel consumption, rising fuel prices and increasing environmental regulations. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is promoting regulations on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from ships, is requiring new ships and existing ships to increase their efficiency by limiting engine output and installing energy saving devices.
Research on energy saving devices using wind power on ships have been developed for a long time. The Magnus effect causes surrounding air to rotate a cylinder to create lift. Among energy devices, the rotor sails use the lift force to use the vessel's auxiliary propulsion.
In this presentation, I would like to introduce a rotor sail that was developed and installed on the ground in real size. The rotor sail is a sustainable solution to reduce fuel consumption and emissions during transport.

The Onboard Carbon Capture System is recognized as a promising technology in response to the greenhouse gas regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Global equipment suppliers are actively engaged in the development of this technology. However, the current OCCS technology suffers from high energy consumption, leading to additional CO2 emissions and resulting in a significantly low carbon capture efficiency. Moreover, the initial capital expenditure required for implementation is considerably high, posing a disadvantage. Another limitation is the lack of established infrastructure and regulations for the storage and utilization of captured CO2 after offloaded on land.
In order to assess the viability of OCCS technology as an environmentally friendly ship technology, its potential will be discussed through an economic evaluation assuming its practical application on ships.

As the regulations of GHG(Green House Gas) are strengthened by IMO(International Maritime Organization) increasingly, various technologies of carbon reduction are under development.
Among these technologies, OCCS(On-board Carbon Capture and Storage) system is considered as an alternative measure to comply GHG regulations instead of carbon free fuels.
For the successful development of OCCS, there are three important issues to be resolved.
Firstly, the improvement of OCCS energy efficiency is required. Secondly, optimized basic design of carbon capture and liquefaction system needs to be developed for compact OCCS system arrangement.
Thirdly, the performance of OCCS system needs to be verified based on the vessel operation.
SHI(Samsung Heavy Industries) developed enhanced exhaust gas WHRS(Waste Heat Recovery System) and flow control technologies, which supply significant amount heat energy from exhaust gas to carbon capture process, thus enhancing the energy efficiency of OCCS and SHI developed LNG cold energy recovery system, which improves the energy efficiency of carbon liquefaction process.
With these exhaust gas WHRS and LNG cold energy recovery technologies, more than 60% energy can be saved.
Furthermore, by optimized basic design of OCCS system, compact OCCS system is achieved where main OCCS components can be installed within vessel height limit.
As part of OCCS system verification based on the vessel operation, joint project with HMM, Panasia will be conducted.
Thus, the results of development of enhanced energy efficiency technologies, optimized basic design and OCCS verification joint project related to OCCS design, operation optimization will be presented.

Greenhouse gas emissions in shipping are expected to continue to grow, increasing the importance of addressing barriers to decarbonisation. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set the ambition of reducing the shipping industry’s greenhouse gas emission and enforce regulations to reduce ship emissions. It is necessary to apply technology for marine internal combustion engine to reduce carbon emission or on-board carbon capture system. Finland, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, and the United States as well as Korea is developing research on the application of various CO2 capture technologies for ships.
The technical issues of on-board CCS are the minimization of space for CO2 capture system and energy required for storage. The cryogenic carbon capture system to be introduced in this presentation is using the supersonic converging diverging nozzle for freezing CO2. Relatively high gravity freezing CO2 is seperated by Centrifugal force and light gas such as N2, O2 go up topside of cyclone. There is no need for additional process for liquefied CO2, so the stored energy can be minimized. Also no chemical solvents are used, so there is no discharge of secondary environmental pollutants. And since the reduction efficiency is determined by the temperature, it is possible to secure a constant efficiency regardless of the movement of the ship.

WinGD X-DF for methanol and ammonia Methanol and ammonia are emerging as leading candidates for alternative shipping fuels thanks to their ability to be produced using renewable sources.
Methanol can be made using captured carbon, while ammonia is a zero-carbon molecule combining nitrogen and hydrogen.
X-DF-M will add methanol capability to the proven technology of WinGD’s X-Engines. For example, the X92DF-M will be based on the X92B engine, whose market-leading fuel efficiency makes it an ideal starting point for developing large bore ammonia-fuelled engines.
X-DF-A will similarly bring ammonia dual fuel capability to the proven efficiency and reliability of the X-Engine series.

Since its first application to ship in 2000 year, the Fuel Gas Supply System (FGSS) has been expanding to various medium/large ships, and its market is gradually expanding due to environmental demands such as reducing ship’s exhaust gas and global greenhouse gas.
